Heritage Pigs and pastured whey-fed Pork

Now taking reservations on summer 2016 weaner piglets (expected farrowing: June).

We raise heritage-breed pigs on pasture. We raise Tamworth x Berkshires which we find to be an excellent all-round pig – excellent temperment, well suited to outdoor living, and producing truly succulent pork. Tamworth pigs are historically known as ‘the bacon pig’ as their long torso makes them ideal for this delicacy. Meanwhile, the Berkshire – being shorter and rounder – is known as ‘the ham pig’. Combining both we get excellent traits from each.

The Tamworth heritage-breed pig is part of the Slow Food Ark of Taste.

See the blog post link just below for more info on how our pork is raised (the quick note is: NATURALLY – no castrating, no tail docking, no de-teething). And yep – even uncastrated male pigs raised to adulthood on our farm turn into DELICIOUS pork!

In addition, our pigs are whey-fed, making their meat truly succulent and healthy. Whey is produced from our household raw milk cheese making and is then used to ferment grain for the pigs. This makes our goats and pigs truly integrated on the farm and it also means that the health wonders of whey is directly available to our pigs.

Here’s a little more info on the wonders of whey-fed pork:

ALERT: We are now taking orders for sides of pork, to be available between March-April. Just a couple not yet reserved. Contact us if interested.

We sometimes have piglets available to grow on yourself. Next piglets expected Spring 2015.

We spend a lot of time with our pigs and piglets - can you tell?

    • Hello and thanks for connecting on our 2016 piglets. The piglets leave their Mamas when they are approximately 7-8 weeks old, it varies a little based on their growth rate in any one year. They are well into solids by then but still getting the nutritional boost from milk. They are also independent and normally well trained to electric fencing. This year the piglets are $110 each and a $50 deposit is required per piglet. We are at or close to full for taking reservations.
